Inspiration Live: Ron Hockley Speaker, Motivator.
In December Ramon & Miriam Vaca were chosen to plant a new church inside La Chureca, the Managua city dump. They are serving the poor in spirit, the abused, the neglected, and the addicted ones who call La Chureca home. We believe that God is calling us to be part to this rescue operation so that Nicaraguan people will find Christ and will experience a new life in Him!
The first worship service was held in La Chureca on December 15, 2007. Two-hundred-thirty people attended: 100 adults, 100 children, and 30 teenagers. Eighteen people accepted Christ. Despite challenges, including a garbage-hauler’s strike in March, the church has continued to grow.
Ramon & Miriam have chosen a name for their emerging congregation: El Faro, Spanish for The Lighthouse. They explain that the name describes their vision and purpose in the Chureca barrio: to shine a bright light of hope into a place rife with darkness and despair.
Earlier this year the Vacas and their team launched three weekly home groups in different parts of the neighborhood. In one, the Chavez family group, three couples have decided to be married. A combined wedding ceremony will be incorporated into the worship service on May 17tb. The church is excited about this.
Ramon & Miriam wrote recently, “We believe that God has placed us in the neighborhood to establish his kingdom!” Please pray with us that God’s kingdom will be established in the dump, pushing back the darkness and shining the bright light of Christ in that neighborhood.
