The Call

You have a unique purpose.  Finding and fulfilling that purpose is the chorus line of your life.  This series can help.  You will hear as Jesus calls and coaches his first disciples in stories from the gospels.  And you’ll hear his voice calling and coaching you too.

Part One:  The Community of the Called
In this study from Luke 9 Jesus lays out a most unorthodox way for those who follow him.  He says that we are all sick and that we all need a doctor, and hints that those who are sickest may be the most called of all.

Part Two:  The Cost of the Call
Impulsive people have always been quick to jump on the Jesus bandwagon.  And Jesus himself is quick to caution them: “Wait, breathe and consider: there is a cost associated with my call.  In this message from Luke 9 we will explore Jesus assertion that following him always results in a (wonderful) life of homeless exile.

Part Three:  The Dark Side of the Call
The journey of following Jesus inevitably leads us through valleys where there are dark shadows – doubt, uncertainty and fear.  In this message from John 6 we’ll explore strategies for navigating the valleys of life.

Part Four:  The Bright Side of the Call
The ancient people of God had a nighttime light source unknown to other people – a pillar of fire that led them through their dark times.  In this message from John 8 we’ll explore Jesus claim to be the “Light” for all who follow him.

Part Five:  The Called Life
In the world’s best-loved Psalm David said “The Lord is my Shepherd.”  Jesus picks up the tune in John 10 and runs with it, describing the dimensions of the called life.

Part Six:  Called to Non-Conformity
Christ leads his followers to unique and individual destinations.  In this study of John 21 you’ll see that Christians are called to a one-of-a-kind life.
