Jesus’ Table Manners

Jesus often shared food and drink with groups of people around a common table.  The table served as hub and essence of Jesus’ community life and it’s important in our lives too.  We have kitchen tables, formal tables, picnic tables, bistro tables in coffee shops and dining tables at our favorite restaurants.  When we gather around the communal table the experience transcends our personal differences and encourages relationship, sharing and conviviality.  All over the world romance, business, family and friendship flourish when we gather around tables.

In this series we study some of Jesus unique table stories.  As you imagine yourself at these distinct table settings you will be invited deeper into Jesus’ kingdom community.

Part One:  The Feast Table at Cana
Jesus began his ministry at a feast table where he affronted the status quo and invited ordinary people to the nourishing and luscious feast of God.

Part Two:  Simon’s Dinner Table
At Simon’s dinner party Jesus got himself into hot water.  Much to everyone’s surprise he revealed his true, if unlikely, nature as the Messiah.

Part Three:  The Supper Table at Emmaus
Sooner or later the weary, the discouraged, burdened, unremarkable and unremembered make their way to Jesus’ table, where sharing Christ’s food can change everything.

Part Four:  The Banquet Table in the Upper Room
At Jesus’ Last Supper he forever established one common food and drink for kingdom citizens.  Come join the banquet!
