The Treasures in your Hands

You carry treasures in your hands which you likely take for granted.  During this study of the Book of Nehemiah you will learn to recognize your treasures for what they really are and you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills for wisely managing the treasures you’ve been entrusted.

Part One:  My Life as a Steward
An introduction to the Book of Nehemiah.

Part Two:  The Treasure of Brokenness
There is no better window into your heart and soul than that thing or shopping list of things you find hopelessly, intolerably broken.  Tell me the thing you hate most, the problem you simply cannot stand, and I will have a good idea what makes you tick.  An understanding of the brokenness in or around you is a treasure because brokenness is the setting where God initiates his best redemptive work.  A study of Nehemiah 1.

Part Three:  The Treasure of Passion
Nothing great happens apart from passion.  Anesthetized hearts never beat in tune with God’s heart.  Passion is a treasure.  Passion drove Nehemiah to five specific behaviors that changed the world.  A study of Nehemiah 1.

Part Four:  The Treasure of Desire
“What do you want?”  That was the question put to Nehemiah by King Artaxerxes, the most powerful monarch of the day.  The treasure of desire is an awareness of what you really want in your deepest heart.  Come prepared to wrestle with the question: “What do you want?”

Part Five:  The Treasure of Time
Are you short on time?  Time flies, they say, and it’s awfully hard to pin it down or hold it still in your hands.  Time is a treasure you hold, unsteadily, in your hands.  At this study, from Nehemiah 2, you’ll hear clear biblical teaching about how to handle this precious resource.

Part Six:  The Treasure of Influence
For good or bad, you influence people.  And influence is a treasure.  At this study, from Nehemiah 2, you’ll learn how to wield influence in ways that honor God and accomplish his purposes.

Part Seven:  The Treasure of Money and Possessions
God owns everything; I get to manage some of his stuff.  This is a biblical study about managing money and possessions in healthy, wise and God-honoring ways.

Part Eight:   The Treasure of Discouragement
Nehemiah records that 37 teams, containing hundreds of people, joined his cause to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem and “worked with all their hearts.”  You might expect that many hands would make light work, but that wasn’t the case.  They faced opposition: mockery, anger, complaining, fatigue, death threats, demoralization, discouragement, misunderstanding, political incorrectness, career failure and intimidation.  But they succeeded anyway!  Come learn how in a hopeful study of Nehemiah 3-6.

Part Nine:  The Treasure of Faith
Ezra the priest helped the people of Nehemiah’s time rediscover the treasure of their faith in wonderful, unexpected, life-transforming ways.  In this study of Nehemiah 8-9 you’ll have an opportunity for your own faith re-discovery.
